Museum of History NSW Horticulture Team-Restructure

Museum of History NSW (MHNSW) advised the PSA on 28 February 2025 that it is proposing to change the structure of the Horticulture team in order to:

  1. Create a career structure
  2. To recognise the breadth of the Horticulture role by providing more increment levels
  3. Provide more competitive salaries to attract employees
  4. Ensure greater pay relativity internally
  5. Retain staff and the historical garden knowledge and experience they have
  6. Reduce burnout
  7. Increase morale and engagement.

The Change Plan with Role Descriptions can be viewed HERE and the proposed Organisational Structure HERE

In summary MHNSW proposes to:

  1. Reclassify the Horticulture Coordinator, HTO9/10 to a Horticulture Manager, Clerk Grade 7/8. The pay differential is greater than 5 per cent MHNSW will place the current occupant in a temporary assignment while MHNSW investigate long term solutions.
  2. Create two HTO level 8 Coordinator roles. Provide acting opportunities for staff and then recruit. We would delete two vacant HTO Level 6 roles – no staff impact as vacant.
  3. Current HTO level 6 Horticulturalist roles become HTO level 6/7 which provides 4 increment levels, recognising the growth possible in this role. Current eligible staff will be directly assigned and commence on Level 7 minimum .

The MHNSW Horticulture Team Management. have met with some of the staff to explain the proposal. MHNSW will meet with the rest of the team today and this week (those work part time, regionally or who currently on leave).

The PSA will raise some preliminary issues in relation to impacted staff and the ongoing recruitment to vacant roles at the PSA MHNSW JCC meeting on the 6 March 2025. Any member with any concerns in relation to this proposal contact or 1800 772 679 please quote Case ID C10003870 . Please note the Consultation period ends on 14 March 2025 the PSA will raised members concerns prior to cob on this date.
