Aware Super – The Super Women Webinar series
Aware Super has developed The Super Women webinar series to support the financial wellbeing of women members and provide tools and information for women who are keen to make changes that will improve their financial situation.
Taking place to coincide with International Women’s Day, this program will run for 3 days from Tuesday 7 March to Thursday 9 March, with 15-minute sessions that you can opt-in to scheduled at convenient times throughout each day.
IWD is a timely reminder of the fact that women still face unique challenges when it comes to money. On average, women earn less than their male counterparts and generally have lower super balances. We encourage women members who are interested to make use of these valuable resources.

International Women’s Day (IWD), a day of celebration of women and the achievements made by and for women, is on Friday 8 March.
The PSA CPSU NSW supports this day. It is a time we can reflect on the achievements we have reached in the fight for women’s rights and gender equality and the role unions have played at the forefront of this. International Woman’s Day also encourages us to come together and consider the battles that still need to be fought!
Your union, the PSA CPSU NSW, has fought for equal pay, equal access to job opportunity, paid parental leave and job security, flexible work hours, family and community service leave, lactation breaks, and, more recently, 20 days’ paid domestic violence leave and improvements to paid parental leave entitlements.
International Women’s Day is also about the celebration of women worldwide and the promotion of economic empowerment, gender equality and basic human rights.
If you want to celebrate this important day with action rather than a cupcake, we urge you to attend an IWD rally on Saturday 9 March 2024, and remember the many battles women have won when they work as a collective. Come along and help get the message out that we still have much to fight for!
The Australian total remuneration average gender pay gap is 21.7 per cent. In the public sector, this gap is much lower at 6.2 per cent. However, this has increased over the past three years and is the highest it has been in a decade. Women still retire with far less super than men. We have workplaces that are still unsafe for many women with high levels of exposure to sexual harassment. We need to fight to change the fact that women and children experience domestic violence at far greater levels than men, and women more often carry the burden of caring responsibilities and need job security and better access to flexible work. We are also fighting for reproductive leave for women.

Flexible Work Lunch and Learn on IWD
Our own PSA CPSU NSW Women’s Council has a strong history of advancing the needs of women in the workplace for more than 90years. Through a ‘Call to Action’ at our Annual Women’s Conference last year, we learned that equitable access to flexible working conditions is at the top of the list of concerns our women members have in the workplace.
We have arranged a ‘Lunch and Learn’ seminar on Flexible Work Practices to assist you to better understand flexible working arrangements, the types of arrangements available in different awards and agreements, tips for making a flexible work application and resolving any issues that arise in this process. This will be held on Friday 8 March 2024 at 12:30pm.
You can register to participate in this online event HERE.

Why we celebrate International Women’s Day
The PSA CPSU NSW supports International Women’s Day. It gives us a chance to reflect on the fight for women’s rights and gender equality and the role unions have played at the forefront of this. Your union, the PSA CPSU NSW, has fought for equal pay, equal access to job opportunity, paid parental leave and job security, flexible work hours, family and community service leave, lactation breaks, and more recently 20 days’ paid domestic violence leave as well as significant improvements to paid parental leave entitlements.
International Woman’s Day also encourages us to come together and consider the battles that still need to be fought. At at 7.2 per cent, the gender pay gap in the NSW public sector is much lower than the Australian average of 21.1 per cent. However, the gender pay gap in the NSW public sector has increased over the last three years and is the highest it has been in a decade. Women still retire with far less super than men. We have workplaces that are still unsafe for many women, with high levels of exposure to sexual harassment. We need to fight to change the fact that women and children experience domestic violence at far greater levels than men, and women more often carry the burden of caring responsibilities and need job security, and better access to flexible work. We are also fighting for reproductive leave for women.
International Women’s Day is also about the celebration of women worldwide and the promotion of economic empowerment, gender equality and basic human rights.

The PSA CPSU NSW is proud to celebrate International Women’s Day, a global occasion dedicated to recognising the achievements of women and advancing the fight for gender equality.
International Women’s Day is a time to honour women worldwide and to champion economic empowerment, equal opportunity and fundamental human rights. It is also a moment to reflect on the collective efforts that have driven progress — and to recommit to the work still ahead.
For our union, this day is an opportunity to acknowledge the vital role unions have played in securing rights and protections for women at work. The PSA CPSU NSW has been a trailblazer for women’s rights, leading campaigns for equal pay, equal access to employment opportunities, paid parental leave and job security. We have fought for flexible working arrangements, family and community service leave, lactation breaks, and more recently, 20 days’ paid domestic and family violence leave, along with significant improvements to paid parental leave entitlements.
International Women’s Day also calls on us to confront the inequalities that persist. While the gender pay gap in the NSW public sector sits at 7.2 per cent – significantly lower than the national average of 21.1 per cent – it has increased over the past three years and is now at its highest level in a decade. Women continue to retire with lower superannuation balances than men, and too many workplaces remain unsafe, with unacceptably high levels of sexual harassment.
We must also address the disproportionate impact of domestic and family violence on women and children, the unequal burden of caring responsibilities carried by women, and the ongoing need for secure jobs and genuine access to flexible work. The PSA CPSU NSW is also proud to be fighting for reproductive leave, recognising that women’s health and wellbeing must be supported in the workplace.
On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the progress made and reaffirm our commitment to building fairer, safer and more equitable workplaces for all women.
Join us to celebrate International Women’s Day Monday 8 March
We deserve fair pay.
We deserve secure, flexible work.
We deserve safe workplaces.
We deserve enough super to provide a dignified retirement.
This International Women’s Day, the theme is ‘Choose to Challenge’. And there’s a lot to challenge in our workplaces.
We normally celebrate International Women’s Day with a morning tea or get together, but we can’t do that this year and keep each other and our communities safe. This year instead your union is inviting you to join a watch party with your fellow members. We have a series of webinars available to you (see menu right) based on our landmark What Women Want report into what women want in our workplaces.
Join us and share a selfie of watching these informative session to as we #ChooseToChallenge this International Women’s Day.
