Members have raised concerns under the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award (SCHADS Award) regarding the way overtime and additional hours are being processed in payroll, particularly in relation to how overtime is allocated within the pay cycle.
The concern is not simply whether overtime is being paid, but whether it is being correctly applied to the actual additional hours worked.
Members reported instances where overtime is sometimes being applied to the final shift in the pay cycle, rather than to earlier additional hours that resulted in ordinary hours to be exceeded. This has raised concerns that some employees may not be receiving the full benefit of their overtime entitlements under the SCHADS Award, for example where final shifts fall on Sundays and already attract penalty rates.
CPSU NSW raised concerns with Connectability about how overtime is being calculated and applied to the final shift in the pay cycle.
Connectability has advised that a coding error in the payroll system meant additional hours worked were not correctly processed for overtime at the time they were worked.
To correct this for one member, Connectability has confirmed it will make a retrospective adjustment payment ensuring the affected hours are paid correctly as overtime, comprising two hours at time and a half and two hours at double time.
Connectability has advised that it was never their intention to disadvantage members and that they are currently reviewing their processes to help ensure this does not occur in the future. However, they also noted this review may take some time to complete.
What should members do?
- Review your payslips and check that all additional hours and overtime payments have been correctly applied.
- If you believe you may have been underpaid, contact Payroll by email and request a review of your pay records.
- If you receive an unfavourable response or do not receive a timely response, please email your union with payroll’s response to quoting C10020361
CPSU NSW will continue to engage with Connectability to ensure their processes are corrected and strengthened so that similar issues do not occur in the future.
It pays to be in the union.
