Respect and Protect: Have your say on occupational violence, Thriving Kids and funding for public schools

Respect and Protect: Have your say on occupational violence, Thriving Kids and funding for public schools

  18 August 2026

Occupational violence is a growing problem for our members who work on the frontline in providing government services to communities across the state.

We want to show the NSW Government just how big a problem this has become as we get closer to the March 2027 state election.

To help us provide the evidence we need to make a case for change, please fill out this survey about how you face threats to your physical and psychological safety through acts of verbal and physical aggression, threats and assault from customers, students, detainees and members of the public while you do your job.

Threats to safety, health and wellbeing are never acceptable and put our members at risk of physical and psychological harm.

Many of our members, including those in schools, will also need to prepare for major changes to the NDIS which mean the state government will start delivering disability supports for children under the age of nine as part of the new Thriving Kids program from October 2026.

To help the PSA represent members’ views in a submission to the NSW inquiry into foundational supports for children and young people, we would appreciate your feedback on how this change may affect your workload and your wellbeing.

The PSA wants to be on the front foot to ensure this program does not put additional workload stress on our members. This change should not disadvantage the children and families our members work so hard to support.

We also want to ensure that public schools have the resources and funding they need to deliver Thriving Kids so our members and children can achieve the best possible outcomes.

The PSA values your work and wants to ensure your employers urgently recognise any workplace safety issues and any added pressure on your workload.

Please complete the PSA survey to help us ensure your voice is heard and that your employers respect your hard-earned workplace rights.
