Rural Fire Service – Award update

Rural Fire Service bulletin – award update – 14 Dec 2015 (PDF version)

Last month we told you we had given our log of claims to the Rural Fire Service (RFS) to improve your working conditions under a renegotiated award.

The RFS has responded by issuing a timetable for negotiations, which you can read here

This was tabled at the Joint Consultative Committee meeting with the PSA, and later at a meeting of the Workplace Advisory Committee (WAC). The PSA also has representatives on the WAC.

The RFS wants to use the WAC to consult with its employees about the log of claims and you may be approached by a WAC employee representative for this. Our members can chose to engage with this process if they wish, but the PSA is uncertain what impact this will have on the ultimate approach of the RFS to the negotiations as it is not the role of the WAC to negotiate the award.

We know your voice is heard louder, stronger and more clearly in chorus with the voices of other members at the RFS. Your delegates and bargaining team are accountable to you. They listen to your views and advance your interests in the award negotiations, and you can count on them to do so.

We welcome your questions and feedback, so please contact any member of the bargaining team:
