Safety Alert Asbestos mineral kits

Safety Alert Asbestos mineral kits – December 2015 (PDF version)

Science mineral kits used in schools have been found to contain asbestos.

The material has been found in kits dating back to the 1970s, as well as some purchased online from overseas.

The attached alert demonstrates to staff how to check mineral kits in schools.

They should notify the national exposure register, as there is no minimal safe asbestos exposure standard in Australia.

This notification will enable the worker greater ease of claim if they are found to have an asbestos-related disease in the future, making it easier to seek support from the Dust Diseases Board.
