The institute’s consultative committee meeting on 8 March 2016 was attended by PSA delegate Christopher Hobbins and industrial advocate Phoebe Dangerfield.

After a recent meeting with the PSA, management released information confirming allocation of personal protective equipment (PPE) is not on hold. This was discussed further at the ICC. Management is developing a process for allocation of PPE and in the meantime it will continue to be allocated as required.

Management believe it will have its research completed by the end of March and will bring further information to your union. In the meantime, should you require PPE it is important you request it. Contact Christopher Hobbins on if you have any concerns in this regard.

The PSA is also meeting with management to discuss safety issues at the National Environment Centre, particularly with regard to risks around snakes.

Concerns were raised in regard to bullying in the workplace, with HR planning on introducing new policies, as well as raising awareness in regard to all staff respecting the rights of others. Again, please advise your PSA delegate if you have any concerns in relation to workplace bullying or if you wish to raise any items for future ICC agendas.

In the meantime the most important thing you can do is to ensure that everyone in your workplace has a voice.

Joining your union is the only way to have your voice heard in the continuing consultations with management.
