Vale Paul Lynch, Crown Prosecutor

It is with sadness that we write to recognise the passing of Paul Lynch, Crown Prosecutor.

Paul was a proud public servant and was a dedicated member of the PSA for 52 years.

Having commenced his employment at the Department of the Attorney General and Justice in 1971, Paul joined the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions as a solicitor in 1987; the year of its inception. In 1989, he was appointed a Crown Prosecutor, where he remained serving the people of NSW until his unexpected passing on 17 May 2024.

Paul was an exceptional advocate with an effervescent personality and a near photographic memory. Even as Paul’s eyesight rapidly deteriorated over the years he, undeterred, continued to appear in Court and mentor his colleagues. He had a remarkable ability to recall salient details of the brief of evidence after having its contents dictated to him by machine. Along with his impressive knowledge of the criminal law, Paul remained a formidable advocate.

He was a close friend and mentor to many practitioners, and a proud union member. Paul will be greatly missed by his colleagues and the PSA.

We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife Kerry and their children.
