RFS Mitigation Staff – Start Times, AIDER & HFSV Programs, and Guardian Mitigation Portal

The PSA is aware that the Rural Fire Service (RFS) has recently requested mitigation staff to change their starting times. In some cases, staff have been asked to complete surveys indicating preferred start times ranging between 7:30 AM and 8:00 AM.

The PSA has received several phone calls concerned about the introduction of the new start times. The PSA understands that the new proposed start times will have both a financial and social impact on our members. Therefore, the PSA will request a meeting with the RFS to raise your concerns.

Feedback on the AIDER and HFSV Programs, and Guardian Mitigation Portal:

As members will recall, the PSA recently sought feedback from mitigation staff regarding the Assist Infirm, Disabled and Elderly Residents (AIDER) Program, Home Fire Safety Visit (HFSV) Program, and the Guardian Mitigation Portal.

The PSA received a large volume of responses highlighting a wide range of issues and concerns. A meeting with the RFS will be scheduled to ventilate these matters in full and ensure your voice is heard.

Next Steps:

  • The PSA will meet with the RFS to discuss both the proposed start time changes and the concerns raised regarding AIDER, HFSV and Guardian.
  • Following these meetings, the PSA will issue a further bulletin to update members on the outcomes.

The PSA thanks members for their continued feedback and encourages you to contact us with any further concerns.

Last call! PSA CPSU NSW Mental Health Conference 2025

Last call! PSA CPSU NSW Mental Health Conference 2025

Just a reminder that the PSA CPSU NSW will be hosting our biannual Mental Health Conference on 15 October 2025.

Preference in attendance is given to delegates and HSRs – if you are interested please sign up as soon as possible before an invitation is sent to the wider membership.

This year’s theme, ‘Healthy Minds, Stronger Communities,’ aims to show the connection between workplace mental health and the broader general well-being of the community.

The conference will be an opportunity for you to actively participate in improving mental health in your workplace by connecting, learning, and collaborating with fellow union members from across the public sector. It is also a fantastic opportunity for HSRs to come together to discuss workplace wellbeing and build safer workplaces.

The focus of the conference is the relationship between self-care and resilience, emphasising the importance of supporting members’ well-being without normalising unsafe work conditions.

Conference sessions will examine strategies for building resilience through self-care and preventing vicarious trauma, while also exploring the strong links between physical and mental health for a more holistic approach to workplace wellness. We have an interesting line-up of presenters, and we look forward to sharing more information with you over the coming months.

Conference will give you the tools and the confidence to speak up and make an active contribution to your workplace and get involved in your union.

This conference is very popular, and spaces are limited. Expressions of Interest close Monday, 15 September 2025 – register your interest HERE.

What to bring when you contact us

You will need copies of your rosters reflecting the past six months and your current permanent offer.

Western Sydney University – Western Sydney Reset

Western Sydney University – Western Sydney Reset

As you all know, the Western Sydney Reset has been worked on over the last few months and the change proposals are nearly here.

Your union has been in constant contact with the Vice Chancellor Distinguished Professor George Williams who has been keeping us appraised of what has been happening in the background and asking us for suggested ways forward.

The operating deficit that needed to be made up was initially $74.5 million of which they have found $23 Mil in non-salary savings and $7 mil in senior staff reductions.

This will mean that there are fewer job impacts and less job losses. The timeline shared by the Vice Chancellor in his all-staff webinar outlines the process that needs to be followed in line with your Enterprise Agreement. (PSA Clause 54 Organisational Change)

WSU Reset

The VC has offered to meet with your union on a regular basis to keep us up to date with any issues and we will also use these opportunities to raise identified matters with him as well.

If you would like us to pass on feedback for any of the change proposals being released this week, please contact with WSU Reset in the subject line.

Your delegates and union are here to support you through this change.
