As the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) continued to push forward with the Staff Placement Plan (Phase 2 of their restructure) the PSA lodged a formal dispute in the NSW Industrial Relations Commission seeking a ‘Status Quo’ order as well as sufficient information to allow for genuine and meaningful consultation.
A conciliation meeting was held on Monday 25 May, where the Commissioner declined to provide a status quo order, however, the PSA did gain an undertaking from DCJ that individual concerns raised by members and staff will be considered and where possible will be supported or, at the least, a genuine response to the specific concern.
A further report back is scheduled for Friday 5 June 2026.
Some of the issues raised are around supervision rations, geographical changes, increased or expanded coverage and assignment to roles/positions.
If you would like support to seek some changes or a genuine response from DCJ, please email us on
The PSA continues to ask for full details in the Organisation Charts, details of any future changes, in particular ‘Phase 3’ and the Department’s plans for Child Protection Workers who are already being impacted by the current changes.
Genuine and meaningful consultation has always been the best way to support positive workplace changes. DCJ should be listening to those doing the work and giving serious consideration to the feedback. If DCJ is seeking to make long lasting, positive changes to the Child Protection System, they should listen to you.
