As you may be be aware, Child Protection and Permanency announced its Phase 3 restructure and change management plan (CMP) on3 August. This meant there was a two-week consultation period.
Over the past couple of weeks, there have been many Town Hall and team meetings to announce the changes and for staff to ask some questions to support them in providing feedback. We have received a significant amount of feedback and questions from members and can only imagine the amount of feedback the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) has received.
The PSA has also provided feedback and asked for further information relating to Phase 3 and any potential phases to come.
Many members raised with us their concerns around a lack of information and the impact the proposed changes will have on Child Protection, in particular around supporting Caseworkers.
Having more Caseworkers working face-to-face with the children and families is needed, so is the support for those Caseworkers. The Department needs more resources to provide the best care and outcomes for these vulnerable children and families, not just shuffling resources around.
We have requested further information and an additional two-week consultation period from the date that the information is received. As of yesterday, 26 August 2026, we are yet to receive an answer.
