NSW prisoner numbers ‘out of control’ as half of all jails operating over capacity – The Sydney Morning Herald

The PSA’s long campaign to force the Baird Government to address the dangerous overcrowding in the state’s prisons has paid off.

The campaign has seen the Government reopen Kirkconnell as we proposed in a letter to the Premier in December 2014 and according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald, it has (quietly) announced it will also re-open Grafton – again, as we requested.

The success of the PSA’s push to place overcrowding on the Government’s agenda can also be measured in the framing of a report on the issue titled Full House: The growth of the inmate population in NSW.
