Apologies for the late update, has been a busy week for all the State Executives. We would like to take the opportunity to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all of our mums in the centres and hope that they all had a great day.
Dave McCauley and myself attended Broken Hill and Ivanhoe Correctional Centres for the Benchmarking process. The staff were extremely welcoming and need to be given credit for the work they do in such remote locations. Both centres appear to be happy with the staffing numbers at the moment, but still have some work to do in relation to risk assessments and local daily routines. We have told both centres to continue with the consultation process and seek advice wherever needed. We will continue our support to both of these centres.
As you are aware, Jason and Nicole were at the IRC last Wednesday and the details were distributed via the PSA bulletin. More details will be available at the DTM which is scheduled for the end of May.
On Thursday Jason visited John Morony to speak with staff and offer support during this difficult time. We have had no more communication with the Department in relation to the Market Testing, but we are meeting with the Department tomorrow. We will be stating there the delay is causing unnecessary stress to the John Morony staff and we will be seeking a date for the final decision. We will keep members up to date with any outcomes from this meeting.
On Friday Nicole and Jason had a meeting with the Shadow Minister Guy Zangari, where all our major issues were raised, including privatisation and Labor’s stance on this subject. Nicole and Jason found the meeting fruitful and opened up the lines of communication. We look forward to his responses and will pass on to the membership as they are acquired.
The Management Committee meeting will be held on 30, 31 May and 1 June 2017. If you would like to add Agenda items please forward these to me as soon as possible. We will distribute the Agenda the week before the meeting.
To ensure all of our members receive the weekly update, we will now be distributing via the PSA distribution list. In addition, the POVB website will be up and running within the next week. We will distribute information in relation to this as soon as it goes live.
As always if anyone has any thoughts, suggestions or queries please don’t hesitate to contact any of the State Executives either via email or on the mobile numbers listed below.
