The PSA: Your union in for Members of Parliament staff.
The Public Service Association of NSW (PSA) is the only union recognised and authorised to represent Members of Parliament staff. The PSA is also the only union that is a party to the Members of Parliament Staff Employment Determination and the Code of Conduct, ensuring your voice is represented on matters affecting your employment, conditions, and workplace rights.
What has the PSA been doing for MoP staff?
The PSA has been actively advocating for parliamentary staff and delivering real outcomes, including:
✅ Securing the $1,000 Cost of Living Adjustment for Members of Parliament staff.
✅ Advocating for the full implementation of the Broderick Report, including writing to the Premier and Minister for Industrial Relations seeking the full implementation of the Broderick Review recommendations, including amendments to the Members of Parliament Staff Act 2013.
✅ Representing Staff Through the Joint Consultative Committee, where the PSA regularly meets with Parliamentary Services to raise and address industrial issues affecting MoP staff.
✅ Meeting Directly with the Minister for Industrial Relations. On 4 August 2026, the PSA met with Minister Sophie Cotsis to raise concerns about:
- Outdated role descriptions
- Job insecurity
- The need for full implementation of the Broderick Review
✅ Launching the Beyond Broderick Campaign. On 6 August 2026, the eve of the fourth anniversary of the Broderick Report, the PSA launched the Beyond Broderick campaign at Parliament House and online, calling for meaningful reform and action on issues affecting parliamentary staff. Speakers included:
Suzette Meade, PSA Delegate
Chair of the PSA’s Members of Parliament Vocational Advisory Group, Suzette Meade chaired the forum and shared her lived experience as a Members of Parliament staff member. Suzette spoke about the realities faced by MoP staff and the need for meaningful legislative and workplace reforms to ensure safe, respectful and secure employment.
Troy Wright, PSA Assistant Secretary
PSA Assistant Secretary Troy Wright outlined the PSA’s campaign for change, including the need to modernise the Members of Parliament Staff Act 2013. Troy highlighted that NSW remains behind other Australian jurisdictions in delivering the legislative protections and workplace standards that parliamentary staff deserve.

Minister for Industrial Relations, Sophie Cotsis
Minister Sophie Cotsis acknowledged the important role played by the PSA and its delegates in advocating for parliamentary staff. The Minister committed to continuing to meet and work with the PSA as efforts continue to advance reforms and address the issues facing Members of Parliament staff.
Don’t be misled
For more than 125 years, the PSA has represented parliamentary employees and remains the union with legal industrial coverage for Members of Parliament staff.
Despite this, misleading claims continue to be made about representation rights within Parliament. The PSA recently wrote to the United Services Union (USU) regarding these claims. It is disappointing that confusion continues to be created around a matter that is clear under the relevant industrial instruments.
When it comes to protecting your pay, conditions, workplace rights, and advancing the reforms recommended by the Broderick Review, the PSA remains committed to standing up for parliamentary staff.
