University of Sydney: CPSU NSW Enterprise Bargaining update

University of Sydney: CPSU NSW Enterprise Bargaining update

  7 May 2026

Your union has just concluded another two Enterprise Bargaining meetings on Tuesday 5 May and Wednesday 6 May 2026.

Issues concerning professional staff roles remaining vacant for extended periods were discussed and considered in the context of ensuring safe workloads, guaranteeing adequate consultation and timely notification of vacant positions.

The CPSU NSW responded to the University’s initial proposal for parental leave with concerns raised around the need for more inclusive language in the clause acknowledging diverse family structures. We also raised the need for lactation breaks within the Agreement and increased and improved facilities at the University to support this.

The union furthered discussions around your claim for community service leave and have sought a quantum of five days of leave for you to be able to undertake work to give back to the community. Discussions will continue as to how this might operate.

The university is set to provide an overall response by 2 June 2026 to all leave claims that have been discussed.

In the meantime, parties will next meet on 19 May 2026 for a financial briefing and on 20 May 2026 to discuss First Nations matters.

Your union will continue to provide updates on the bargaining process and on your claims.

We very much welcome any feedback or input, including any information that you feel would be relevant to bring to the table to assist in prosecuting your claims.
