Use of the Corrective Services NSW email system

The PSA is aware that a number of allegations of misconduct have been made against our members’ use of the Corrective Services NSW (CSNSW) email system. These allegations can include matters such as:

  • Comments about or to a colleague;
  • Images being shared; and
  • Joking about work-related matters or inmates.

There are also some more serious allegations.

We are aware that most of these comments are made innocently or in good nature by our members.  However, if someone in the email chain or someone reviewing the chain believes your email is in some way offensive, you may face an allegation of misconduct.

Your work emails are official government records and are not considered private. They can even be requested by a member of the public under freedom of information legislation (GIPA in NSW).

We remind our members to be very careful with how they use the CSNSW email system and to be aware that a third party may be reviewing any email you write at a later date.

We don’t want any of our members to have to face allegations of misconduct for writing an email.
