Industrial Action Postponed for Emergency IRC Hearing
Following the incredible success of our stop work meetings on Thursday 24 October 2019, NSW Police today sought orders prohibiting industrial action in the Industrial Relations Commission.
The Commission hearing was at extremely short notice. The Police Force was represented by lawyers, so the PSA needed to retain legal representation to argue against the orders sought. It was impossible to organise PSA lawyers today, so the hearing has been stood over until Monday 28 October 2019. Interim Orders prohibiting industrial action until midnight Monday 28 October were issued by consent.
As a result, the General Secretary of the PSA directs that no industrial action or work to rule is to take place between now and midnight on Monday 28 October 2019. This temporary one-day suspension of the action decided by members is necessary to allow the PSA to properly make our legal case regarding the Dispute Orders sought by Police. Members will be updated via bulletin as soon as possible following the hearing on Monday afternoon.
Members demonstrated beyond doubt on Thursday that Special Constables are united in pursuit of recognition and fair pay. Together, Special Constables and the PSA are showing NSW Police that we can’t be ignored any longer.
