Schools Working With Children Check (WWCC)

Schools Working With Children Check (WWCC) – February 2017 (PDF version)

The Working with Children Check (WWCC) was an important agenda item at the recent JCC. By now you should have received a reminder and direction from the Department of Education (DoE) about applying for this check if you have not already applied for clearance.

SECONDARY SCHOOL STAFF ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLY BY 31 MARCH 2017.

YOU MUST COMPLY EVEN IF YOU ARE ON LEAVE OR OTHERWISE ABSENT FROM WORK.

Under the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012, employees working with people under 18 need a current WWCC.

Members are strongly advised to comply with the directions from the DoE to obtain the relevant clearances, in the timeframes that are notified to staff. View the timeframes HERE.

The PSA is still looking at ways to have the employer pay for this check. If we can lodge any claim on your behalf, you will need your receipt.

Remember failure to comply by 31 March 2017 will result in ongoing staff being removed from the payroll and termination of temporary contracts.

Members employed in Primary Schools have a different transition timetable and can make their applications for clearance in the period from 1 April 2017, ending on 31 March 2018.

The Department will provide the information about complying with this requirement.

If you have feedback or questions, please send this to , or contact the PSA on 1300 772 679.

You can support the work of the PSA and your local delegates by asking your colleagues to JOIN their union.

Please forward this to your colleagues so that they are informed about this important requirement, and encourage them to JOIN the PSA.
