Does someone you know rely on Ageing, Disability and Home Care? (PDF version)

Dear PSA member,

Do you, or someone you know, care for a person who lives in a home run by Ageing, Disability and Home Care (ADHC)? Or perhaps you know someone who relies on other ADHC services such as respite care? If so, I encourage you to please read on.

You may have heard of our Real Choice campaign to keep ADHC operating.

This campaign highlighted the Government’s decision to privatise ADHC with thousands signing our petition, attending our November 2014 rally, and signing our doorknocking pledge earlier this year.

However, the Baird Government is determined to proceed with the largest privatisation ever seen in this state. The PSA is equally determined to change the Government’s mind.

View photos and this news article of recent, highly effective action by PSA ADHC members in Bathurst, which demonstrates the power of local community action.

From actions such as these we know that there is enormous public support to keep ADHC. We’ve also learnt that working closely with ADHC clients and families is an important ingredient for winning this fight.

That is why today I am inviting PSA members who use ADHC services to get involved with our campaign. You can do this by emailing us at

Why get involved?

We know that this privatisation will deny ADHC clients the option of remaining with ADHC even if there is no one else to provide the services needed.

PSA members working in ADHC report that not for profit and other private providers are unlikely to accept clients with high level or complex needs. These recent stories on Prime7 & in the Sydney Morning Herald explain the story well.

If ADHC is no longer here, then there will be:

  • No specialised services available for over 65s who live with a disability;
  • No emergency care provisions if a person with disability suddenly become homeless or their carer becomes ill; and
  • No caseworkers to help coordinate services for clients.

In addition the NSW Government has no intention to deliver regional services and no back- up plan for those areas unlikely to deliver a profit to private providers. The risks are glaring.

But there is hope and an alliance between clients, carers and ADHC staff is the way to deliver on that hope.
