Health & Safety Representative Training

HSR 5 Day Training Wednesday 13 March, Thursday 14 March, Friday 15 March and Tuesday 2 April, Wednesday 3 April 2019

 

Course runs for five days and will be held at PSA House and are available to elected Health and Safety Representatives. The cost of the course for your agency is $800, and to register for the course you must fill out the registration form (HERE) and have it approved by your Manager. Please return completed form either by email to training@psa.asn.au or by fax to 9262 1623.

Participants should note lunch is not provided. However, facilities, such as tea, coffee, fridge and microwave, are available.

Course Outlines

  • Role of the Delegate
    This course discusses the role of the delegate and active members: what delegates do, delegate protections, organising skills, recruitment, working with issues, union values and involvement. Any member can learn from this course and is welcome to apply.
  • Dealing with member issues
    This course is for delegates who want to develop their ability to assist members with individual workplace issues. The course will look at how deal with individual issues by using the problem solving framework, and by developing advocacy skills. (one day course)
  • Dealing with Bullying in the Workplace
    Designed to assist members and delegates in dealing with bullying and harassment at work. (one day course)
  • Dealing with Restructures
    Government guidelines that inform the restructures process, how the PSA responds to restructures at the consultation and implementation stages, the role members and delegates can play, discussion around specific restructures and case studies. Fact sheets and other resources are provided to assist members in the workplace.
  • Achieving Workplace Flexibility
    This course will look at the benefits of workplace flexibility and what flexible work practices exist in the NSW public sector. It will examine what you can do to access and implement these flexible work practices, by providing negotiation and organising strategies.
  • Women in the Union
    Celebrate International Women’s Day in 2017 by learning about the important role women have and can play in building strong unions. Topics include history of women’s participation in the workforce, your rights and entitlements, union structures, assertiveness, EEO and anti-discrimination.
  • Care and Resilience
    This course provides information, strategies and resources to build personal resilience and enhance mental health awareness.
    It also provides participants with strategies to identify and support a colleague/s with mental health issues and encourage them to seek professional help.
  • Public Speaking
    Speaking in public is something that all union activists will have to do at some stage. This course is designed to assist PSA delegates and activists to be more confident public speakers.
  • Work Health and Safety
    This 2-day course covers the various rights, entitlements and obligations under the WHS Act 2011, that underpin a safe and healthy workplace, paying special attention to union perspectives.
