NSW Treasurer attacks ALP’s public service wage rise plan as ‘reckless’ – SMH 13/03/2019
NSW Public Service Association general secretary Stewart Little said any improvements in salary had been outweighed by big cuts in staffing levels and frontline services which had not improved productivity.
“Eight years of a wage growth cap on our public servants under the Coalition government has had a chilling effect across NSW. It has stifled income growth for workers everywhere, not just those who work for the state,” he said.
Mr Little said Labor’s policy would reopen the opportunity for unions to play a more collaborative role in how cost savings were made. The NSW Industrial Relations Commission’s powers to oversee those negotiations would also be restored under a future Labor government.
