Piccoli announcement PSA schools bulletin
Piccoli announcement PSA schools bulletin – October 2015 (PDF version)
Earlier today, Wednesday 21 October, the PSA received a media alert stating that Education Minister Adrian Piccoli would be making an announcement at 10.00am at Randwick Girls High School.
The PSA sent staff to the announcement.
At the press conference, Minister Piccoli announced $113 million in funding to support NSW public school students.
The Minister’s media release states “through the NSW Government’s Local Schools, Local Decisions reform, principals in all NSW public schools are making local decisions on how to use these funds to improve student outcomes”.
The PSA welcomes any increase in funding to public schools, but we are concerned there was no mention of SAS staff and the critical role you play in schools.
The PSA has asked for ongoing meetings with the department to discuss the range of issues that arise from the government’s Local Schools, Local Decisions policy.
At this meeting we will ask the department how the newly announced funding can be of benefit to our members, particularly in the case of workload issues faced by SAS staff in LMBR schools and the role SLSOs play in supporting students with special needs.
In the meantime, the PSA will review the documents from this morning’s announcement to assess the implications for SAS Staff.
It is great to see additional funds being injected into the public system.
Our job is to ensure the voice of SAS staff is heard in the discussions about how the money is best spent.
