The PSA reminds all members of this memorandum: Joint Assistant Commissioner’s Memorandum 2022 / 14 / 06 / 05 (Memorandum), which can be viewed HERE.

The Memorandum was issued in relation to the implementation of firearms refresher training. The memorandum prescribes mandatory requirements for custodial officers who undertake duties involving firearms, including medical escorts and the performance of armed posts such as the Gatehouse.

The memorandum requires the completion of four components in order to maintain competency and compliance, being:

1. Firearms Online Refresher Training Module.  Thrive

2. Firearms Safe Handling Procedures Refresher (dry drills). Within 6 months of completion of online refresher training module

3. Range Shoot Refresher Training (live fire), to be completed at the Academy or as required

4. Interactive Scenario Training. To be completed at the academy or as required

The PSA is seeking legal advice on this matter in regards to an Officer not being compliant with the essential components and how this will effect the use of firearms by our members, we are also in discussions with CSNSW.
