What the PSA is working on this year for members

Welcome back to work for 2026, we hope the first few weeks of Term 1 have been good.

Your PSA organisers have been visiting schools during the school development days and will be getting in touch to organise your Term 1 union meetings.

If you would like a PSA meeting at your school contact your organiser directly, call our Member Support Centre on 1800 772 679 or email us at .

2025 was another big year for the PSA, some of the things we achieved working with members and delegates were:

  • Commencing negotiations on updated General Assistant and School Administrative and Support Staff Awards.
  • Electing a new committee of delegates to represent the SASS membership, ensuring good representation for members across the state.
  • Highlighting with senior representatives from the Finance Directorate ongoing system and workload issues through the eFPT Working Party and pushing Department to develop solutions.
  • Continuing to fight for safer workplaces for our members by delivering specialised WHS support at the school level, pushing hard for the long‑overdue introduction of online incident reporting — a reform the union has consistently demanded — and ensuring members’ voices shape the rollout of the new Chemical Safety in Schools program.

Some of the issues and priorities we will be working on this year are:

  • Rolling out our PSA Schools Online Information Sessions, ensuring members have regular access to accurate, union information and the support the PSA provides. Keep an eye out—we’ll be running more of these sessions throughout the year.
  • Intensifying our campaign for a fair and improved Staffing Formula, and pushing hard through award negotiations and other avenues to secure real, meaningful increases across all classifications. The PSA will continue to hold the the NSW Government to account to deliver the staffing and salaries our members deserve.
  • Demanding a genuine, secure pathway to permanency for Long Term Temporary employees, one that does not rely on one‑off conversion projects. Members deserve certainty and stability, and the PSA will continue to fight for a system that delivers long‑term security—not temporary fixes.
  • Continuing our strong advocacy for the return of role‑specific, face‑to‑face training and conferences for all classifications. High‑quality professional learning and development is essential to delivering the world‑class public education system NSW children deserve, and the PSA will keep pushing until members have access to the comprehensive, in‑person training they need and are entitled to.

The stronger our membership, the stronger our voice

These challenges won’t be fixed overnight, and real, lasting change depends on every member being actively engaged. You can help make the most of our seat at the table by encouraging every colleague who isn’t yet a member to join us and stand alongside their union.

If you are a member with an individual issue, you can contact the PSA on 1800 772 679 for advice and support.
