Transport for NSW PSA Members Update 2015 (PDF version)
Your union, the PSA, has started rolling out workplace meetings and engaging with delegates, members, contacts and activists to build strength on the ground at Transport for New South Wales (TfNSW) in 2015.
The initial focus will be on TfNSW award negotiations and educating members on key changes in the public sector. Topics to be covered:
- The Transport Cluster Policy Review
- Conditions in your Transport Service of New South Wales Salaries and Conditions of Employment Award 2011
- Conditions in your Transport Service of New South Wales Agreement 2012
- A recap on the Government Sector Employment Act, Regulations and Rules and the sections relevant to TfNSW.
PSA TfNSW delegates in 2015
If you want to have a say in how your union is run and be part of a collective effort to improve your rights at work, we encourage you to nominate and get involved in your union, the PSA.
To build strength on the ground and to make our claims relevant and winnable, the membership needs to be represented by worksite and departmental committee delegates and contacts spread through TfNSW. PSA delegate elections for both Workplace Groups (worksite) and the TfNSW Departmental Committee are due this year. Members will be updated on the relevant processes shortly. In the interim, if you want to become more involved in your union you can email and put TfNSW PSA contact in the subject line.
Award negotiations 2015
Your Transport Service of New South Wales Salaries and Conditions of Employment Award 2011 will be renegotiated this year and your union, the PSA will be engaging with you to identify those conditions members see as crucial to their working life as well as providing updates on the award making process.
At this stage there are no timeframes for commencement of the process and we will keep members updated on any developments in this area.
Transport Cluster Policy Review
TfNSW has advised the PSA of their proposed agenda for policy development in 2015 for the Transport Cluster. The policies subject to consultation include – Recruitment, Transfers, Secondment and Higher Duties as well as Transport leave policies and procedures. We will provide updates in member meetings and will also ask for feedback when policies are released.
The Transport Administration Act and GSE
Last year, the NSW Government changed one of the fundamental pieces of employment legislation governing the public sector. The Government Sector Employment Act 2013 (GSE) was enacted on 24 of February 2014 with the GSE Regulation 2014 and Rules. Different parts apply in varying degrees to the transport cluster as TfNSW is also subject to the Transport Administration Act 1988.
The PSA will continue to provide information on this in meetings with members, however, for quick reference, here are a few key areas that members should be aware of:
Transport Administration Act 1988
- Part 7 – Division 4 – Transfer of Staff
- Part 7A – The Transport Service: Includes employment of staff in the Transport Service and salary conditions etc. of staff employed in the Transport Service
Government Sector Employment ACT
Relevant sections for Employees at TfNSW
- Part 5 – Government Sector Employees
Includes: Performance management systems and employee transfers and secondments.
Your union will continue to update members on how the changes could affect you in the workplace by covering an area of change in PSA workplace meetings.
