Baird Government introduces LPI Privatisation Legislation
Baird Government introduces LPI Privatisation Legislation – 19 September 2016 (PDF Version)
On the evening of 13 September the Baird Government introduced legislation to privatise Titling and Registry Services (TRS), the profitable arm of Land and Property Information (LPI).
As previously mentioned, the Government’s Minister Perrottet had committed to providing the PSA a copy of the legislation before it was introduced. However, despite our reminders, the Government has once again shown its true colours by refusing to honour this commitment.
Unlike the Government, your union, the PSA, is committed to maintaining LPI as a world-class public sector agency, and we will continue to fight for the good of our members and the people of NSW.
Over the next few days we will:
- conduct an urgent legal review of the legislation, as on the face of it the legislation is flawed and contains significant risks
- conduct meetings with relevant cross-benchers, together with Margaret Hole, former President of the Law Society and Michael Green, President of the NSW Institution of Surveyors. At these meetings we will brief the cross-benchers of the risk the Government’s bill poses to the people of NSW and seek support in rejecting the legislation.
What can I do?
Through members working together, the PSA has already delivered results for members in LPI, stopping the privatisation of Valuations, Surveying and the closure of LPI Bathurst office.
Constant pressure from the PSA and other unions, including our current Stop the Secret Sell Off media campaign, is also delivering results. The shine is finally coming off Mike Baird, and the public is beginning to form a realistic view of the Government’s ill-planned and risky attack on Public Services.
With the Government looking vulnerable, now is the perfect time to expose Baird’s Secret Selloff and use the leverage to fight for LPI.
As a next step, members are strongly urged to attend our gathering against the attacks on the Public Sector:
Stop the Secret Sell Off Protest
21st September 2016
12:30pm to 1:30pm
Parliament of NSW
Macquarie St Sydney
Your fellow members from ADHC, TAFE, Sport and Recreation, Trustee and Guardian, Child Protection and Housing are also being encouraged to attend, as they are similarly facing privatisation by the Baird Government.
We look forward to seeing you there, and will report to members as our fight continues.
Stop the Secret Sell Off Petition
The PSA has also set up an online petition calling on the NSW Government to:
- protect our valuable public services from privatisation
- introduce “follow the money” laws for financial scrutiny and accountability.
