Are you working in science? Open this email!
The Public Service Association (PSA) has been working hard with your delegates to improve the working lives of School Administrative Officers (SAO) working in science.
Following the historic pay equity case win in 2019 the PSA recognised the need to work more closely with our SAO members in science and set up the SAO Science Vocational Advisory Group.
A Vocational Advisory Group is a committee of PSA members, in a particular vocation, that work together to involve more people in the union and help to resolve issues with the support of our Organisers and Industrial Officers.
SAO Science Vocational Advisory Group Successes
Since that time, the group has succeeded in highlighting the distinct needs of SAO’s in science including:
- Fiercely advocating for increased training resulting in the release of Intro to Science Part A and now, after considerable work Part B
- Ensuring a representative from the committee attended all Work Health and Safety meetings with the department resulting in strengthened relationships with the WHS Directorate
- Gaining agreement from the Department of Education to review the Chemical Safety in Schools booklet which was drastically outdated, part one has been released with part two under development
- Advocating a move back to face to face training following the online modules created during the Covid years
- Surveying all SAO Science members about the issues they face in their workplace
But there is much more to do!
We need you: consider becoming a PSA delegate
- Would you like to become more involved in your union?
- Are you interested in working with the PSA and other SAO Science members in your school network to resolve issues and help to grow the union?
The PSA will be calling for nominations for the School Administrative Officer (Science) Vocational Advisory Group.
As a member of the SAO Science Vocational Advisory Group you become a delegate and are protected under legislation and your award.
Keep an eye out for the call for nominations and put your hand up to be part of this important delegate group.
If you want to have a say in how your union is run and want to be part of a collective effort to improve your rights at work by building strength on the ground, we encourage you to nominate and get involved in your union, the PSA.
