Art Gallery of NSW budget off a cliff!

Public Service Association of NSW (PSA) union officials and PSA Art Gallery of NSW (AGNSW) delegates attended a briefing by the AGNSW Director on Monday 11 August 2025 for an update on the budget position and a proposed restructure to reflect a reduction of funding from the NSW Government.

Details of the proposal were embargoed until 10:00am Tuesday 12 August 2025 to enable the NSWAG Executive briefing of staff.

Currently there are 382 current roles with 310 ongoing employees at the AGNSW. The draft change management plan SEE HERE anticipates that there will be a reduction of 51 ongoing non-Public Service Senior Executive (PSSE) roles. Also, according to AGNSW a significant number of roles will be impacted by this proposal due to a change in terms of their purpose, function or accountabilities. Additionally, there is a reduction of 1 PSSE role.

The PSA is alarmed with the number of proposed job cuts within this proposal and across the wider public sector including the current other proposal in the Cultural Institutions which is a proposal to reduce Create NSW staffing by over 25 per cent.

Next Steps

PSA AGNSW delegates will be meeting on Wednesday 13 August 2025 to consider this proposal and guide a PSA alternative submission to ameliorate the proposed impact on PSA members jobs. A PSA members meeting will be convened over the next seven days to consider members’ concerns and feedback. A separate bulletin with meeting details will follow shortly.

The proposed Consultation timeline SEE HERE runs from 12 August until 2 September 2025. The PSA proposes to lodge a submission to address members’ concerns in relation to the current proposal. Members are invited to forward your concerns and/or feedback to or 1800 772 679 by close of business 29 August 2025. Please quote Case ID C10008930.
