Call For Nominations – Rural Fire Service Departmental Committee

FOURTEEN DELEGATES REQUIRED

Nominations are called for positions of delegate on the Rural Fire Service Departmental Committee.

What is the RFS Departmental Committee?

The RFS Departmental Committee represents the interests of all PSA members in the RFS.

The Departmental Committee advises the PSA about matters of concern to its members. Typically, these will be issues affecting all or a large section of the RFS such as restructures, relocations, staffing, workload, or safety issues. It is the Departmental Committee members who advise on the overall policy and industrial strategy for the union in the RFS.

The Departmental Committee is comprised of delegates elected from the membership every two years. The Departmental Committee consists of a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, and a number of delegates.

What else do delegates do?

PSA Delegates have a variety of responsibilities, the core of which is to represent the interests of all RFS PSA members and the PSA.

PSA Delegates meet with members of the RFS Senior Management as part of the Joint Consultative Committee quarterly where they represent members. PSA Delegates may also, from time to time, be invited to sit on other RFS committees as the PSA representative. PSA Delegates may also represent the members in negotiations with RFS management or in industrial disputes.

PSA Delegates are a point of contact for members when workplace issues arise and are responsible for recruiting new members to the union so they can be part of the collective.

PSA delegates are provided with industrial protection for their protected union activities and will be granted paid special leave for approved union activity.

Being a PSA Delegate is a good opportunity to represent your colleagues and have your voice heard about issues that affect the staff of the RFS.

Each nomination must be supported by two other PSA members from the same electorate as the nominee. Nominees, nominators, and seconders must be financial members of the Association as of 12 July 2024.
