Important update: Transport for NSW pay rise confirmed

In a significant win for members, the PSA has secured agreement with all unions and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) for your pay rise.  Earlier this morning, just before the scheduled hearing in the Industrial Relations Commission, ALL unions and TfNSW agreed via a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to vary your Award to give effect to the following pay rises.

  • 4 per cent increase in salaries from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2024
  • 3 per cent increase in salaries from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2025
  • 3 per cent increase in salaries from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2026
  • The offer includes a safeguard mechanism to protect wage earners if the Sydney Consumer Price Index (CPI) exceeds 3.5 per cent (March quarter) in the second or third year of the deal. If this is the case, there will be negotiations for a one-off, non-cumulative, cost-of-living allowance (COLA)
  • If the Sydney CPI exceeds 4 per cent (March quarter) in the second or third year, members will receive a $1,000 taxable, one-off, non-cumulative cost-of-living adjustment payment, plus superannuation.

Conditions negotiations will continue

As the PSA has maintained, the acceptance of the wages offer does not stop discussion and negotiation continuing on a number of claims. Claims affecting PSA members that can continue include:

  • Award coverage for Transport Senior Service Managers (TSSMs)
  • Flexible Working Hours conditions
  • Workplace Presence provisions
  • Provision of Opal cards for TfNSW staff

Additionally, as the MOU outlines that the RMS Award is to be varied and not replaced, employment guarantees for former RMS employees will remain.

Award amalgamation

The MOU also includes an agreement between TfNSW and the unions to commence discussions regarding redrafting and amalgamating the Transport for New South Wales and Sydney Metro Authority Award, and the Roads and Maritime Services Consolidated Salaried Award, into the one single Award.

Significant win for PSA members

Today’s agreement from all unions comes after PSA members overwhelmingly voted to accept the pay offer in October. We thank the thousands of members who supported the campaign through signing our digital petition demanding the pay rise, and all those that have expressed their support for urgent cost-of-living relief.

When will the pay rise be paid?

Unfortunately, the delay in accepting the offer has meant that there are significant hurdles for TfNSW to pay the increase by the end of the year. Instead, it is likely that the pay rise may take until January to be paid. The PSA will keep you updated as we receive further information. We will do everything we can to assist the pay rise being paid as soon as possible.
