Members of Parliament staff: 1 July 2026 pay increase and what’s next for staffers

From 1 July 2026 you will notice a 3 per cent increase in your salary. This increase forms part of the 9.5 per cent pay increase secured by the Public Service Association (PSA) in 2024 for staff employed by Members of Parliament, along with a 1 per cent increase to your superannuation.

This outcome was achieved through collective advocacy and formal negotiations led by the PSA.  The only union who can negotiate and fight for improved wages and working conditions. That representation ensures your pay and conditions are pursued through enforceable industrial processes, not informal arrangements.

But we are not stopping there

While pay increases are important, long-term job security and industrial certainty matter just as much. We are employed under a determination tied to Members’ Entitlements rather than a formal industrial Award like every other state in Australia and the Commonwealth. This creates ongoing uncertainty and leaves staff without the full protections and stability that other NSW public sector workers enjoy. We believe staff deserve a modern, enforceable Award that properly reflects the complexity, responsibility and professional standards of our work — and removes the uncertainty of existing under a determination framework.

The Public Service Association’s Members of Parliament Staff (MoPs) Advisory Group, formed of MoPs delegates, is driving a coordinated campaign to secure long-overdue updates to role descriptions, with remuneration aligned to the responsibilities and complexity of the work MP staff undertake every day.

Our delegates represent staff of Members of the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council and are always happy to hear from you. If you have questions, suggestions, or issues you would like raised, please reach out. Your delegate’s contact details are included below.

Remember, for over 125 years the PSA has been the only union authorised to represent and advance the industrial interests of MoPS.

Please also speak with your colleagues about the importance of union membership. The more united we are, the stronger our voice becomes. To find out how to set up your union membership, click HERE
