National Parks and Wildlife Service Joint Consultative Committee Update
The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) met on 10 December 2024 to discuss a range of important issues, including the following:
Career Progression Plan
An update was provided on the implementation of training for Team Leaders and other related actions. However, the PSA has not yet received a copy of the Career Progression Plan.
The PSA will continue to advocate for the introduction of systems that facilitate career progression for our members.
My Work Zone (MWZ)
The PSA has been contacted by numerous members regarding a variety of issues related to the implementation of My Work Zone (MWZ). We have been actively advocating for the swift resolution of these issues and improved communication with affected staff.
Unfortunately, many concerns remain unresolved, particularly those impacting pay and award conditions such as leave accrual and allowances. The PSA is especially concerned about the challenges faced by staff on 5/7 rosters.
On a positive note, incident claims continue to be processed in a timely manner.
Work Health and Safety (WHS)
NPWS provided an update on several WHS initiatives:
- Work is ongoing regarding contractors’ safety and noise monitoring.
- Audiometric testing will commence in January 2025.
- The Peer Support Program continues to assist staff experiencing difficulties in the workplace.
- The WHS roadmap is set to be completed next year.
Functional Review
The meeting included an assurance that the recently announced functional review will have minimal impact on NPWS members. However, the PSA is seeking further consultation on the review and will provide updates to members as more information becomes available.
