Proposed change within SafeWork NSW: new role within Risk function

Your union has been advised of a proposed change within SafeWork NSW regarding the structure of the Risk function.  It is proposed that Risk be split out and built into a new standalone function.

The proposed changes are:

Role Title and Focus Change:

The current Manager, Risk Assurance & Reviewable Decisions role will be revised and renamed to Manager, Regulatory Assurance and Reviewable Decisions.

Creation of New Role:

A new position — Manager, Risk and Business Resilience — will be created. SafeWork NSW plans to go to market to recruit for this role. This position will play a key role in leading SafeWork’s risk strategy, embedding a strong risk culture, and ensuring alignment with broader government and regulatory expectations.

Reporting Line Changes:

The Senior Advisor and Project Officer roles, which currently report to the Manager, Risk Assurance & Reviewable Decisions, will move to report under the new Manager, Risk and Business Resilience. This shift will enable greater alignment with strategic risk priorities and ensure a more cohesive delivery of risk-related initiatives.

Consultation closes 10 October 2025.  We welcome feedback from members.  Please contact member support on 1800 772 679 or email and quote reference number 10010654
