PSA SAO Science Vocational Group - Public Service Association

PSA SAO Science Vocational Group

Dear SAO Science,

Thank you for your interest in the PSA SAO Science Vocational Group.

The PSA SAO Science Vocational Group are elected PSA members who represent you across the various NSW school regions.

The PSA SAO Science Delegates meet four times a year to discuss and address SAO Science concerns to help build a stronger, protected vocation with the union.

The Delegates work closely with the PSA’s Industrial team to discuss issues that affect SAO science members and who within the Department can assist which can include the Department’s WH&S Directorate, training and HR. This is the only way to protect your rights and entitlements as well as fighting for better working conditions.

Current topics under discussion include:

  • The lack of face-to-face training appropriate to our role,
  • WH&S demands for staff working closely with hazardous chemicals,
  • The outdated CSIS chemical Search information at our disposal, and
  • SAS Staff Award negotiations.

SAO’s working in science work in a specialised area of the school often requiring unique scientific and technical skills, whilst working alongside teachers to support the delivery of practical and inquiry-based science education.

They often provide advice and guidance to ensure the effective management of equipment, material preparation, maintenance, all whilst trying to ensure the health and safety requirements, school procedural and legislative compliance is met for the necessary safe operation of the school.

The PSA and the SAO Science Vocational Group are committed to your concerns and look to building a stronger relationship with the members who work in science.
