Undervalued, Understaffed, Underpaid: NSW Sheriff’s Officers’ full-day industrial action

Yesterday, the PSA and the Sheriffs Officers Vocational Branch Advisory Group (SOVBAG) endorsed statewide industrial action for tomorrow, Thursday 15 August 2024. This action applies to all PSA members employed by the NSW Office of the Sheriff.

All members in the Sydney Metro region are directed to report to the Downing Centre from 8:30am.

All members in the Greater Metro Area can either attend the Downing Centre from 8:30am, or use one of two PSA buses that will transport members to and from the Downing Centre:

  • Members in Parramatta and Liverpool hubs are to report to Parramatta District Court (160 Marsden Streey Parramatta) by no later than 8:15am to catch the bus to the Downing Centre.
  • Members in the Penrith hub are to report to Penrith Courthouse by no later than 8:15am to catch the bus to the Downing Centre.

Each bus will depart the Sydney CBD at approximately 11:30am to return members to Parramatta and Penrith respectively.

All members employed in regional locations are directed to take part in a full-day strike. You are not required to attend any work location for the purpose of this action. Members are to attend an online Teams meeting at 9:00am on Thursday using this link.

The PSA will also be livestreaming this action at the Downing Centre on our Facebook page, which you can find HERE.

To be clear to all members, this is a full-day strike action. For those members directed to attend the Downing Centre, at the conclusion of our rally and the buses leaving, members are expected to continue to cease duties for the remainder of the day.

All members of the PSA employed by the Office of the Sheriff are strongly encouraged to take part in this action, including but not limited to:

  • Sheriff’s Officers
  • Court Officers
  • Administrative employees (of NSWSHO)

Only members of the PSA are protected in taking Industrial Action by Clause 64 of the Crown Employees (Public Service Conditions of Employment) Award 2009, which states, “There will be no victimisation of staff members prior to, during or following industrial action”.
