New Recruitment Procedures, LTT Conversion and Severance Pay

As part of the PSA’s Worth 100% Campaign your union has been fighting for the conversion of long term temporary employees.

Last year, during term 4, the PSA supported many members to request and win permanency.

It’s that time of year again when the PSA highlights how we can support you to request permanency. However, this year there is a new process which is quite different to previous years. This was put in place when the Department of Education implemented new SASS Recruitment Procedures.

The new recruitment procedure allows eligible staff to be able to be converted to full or part permanency if your Principal supports you and you meet certain criteria.  If you have been employed continuously for 12 months or more, you may be eligible for conversion and the PSA is here to support you to understand how the process works and to assist you to request conversion if you meet the criteria.

Support from the PSA on how to express interest in conversion

We have developed an easy-to-use PSA Conversion Guide and Checklist for members so you can understand how to request permanency. If you meet the criteria, we have also prepared a template for members to use to express interest.

For non-members the first step to understanding the process and seeking conversion is to JOIN THE PSA

Once you have joined or if you are already a member you can access the PSA Conversion Guide and Checklist by:

Contacting your PSA Organiser

Contacting the Member Support Centre on 1300 772 679

Emailing

We encourage all Long Term Temporary members that meet the criteria to seek the support of your Principal and put in an EOI.

For PSA support throughout the process contact your organiser or email to arrange a meeting at your school.

Did you know the PSA can support you if your contract isn’t renewed?

The PSA is here to support you if your contract is not renewed, but we can only act on behalf of members. Over the last year we have successfully won positive outcomes for members when their contract was not renewed such as:

  • Severance Pay
  • New Long Term Temporary contract at another school
  • New Short Term Temporary contract at another school

Do you know someone who still needs to join the PSA?

You can support the work of the PSA and delegates to get better outcomes for everyone just by asking your colleagues to JOIN the PSA.

Be part of the campaign to make positive change by encouraging others in your workplace to join.
