Special Constables Work Value Update

Over the past two weeks, the PSA has been before the Full Bench of the Industrial Relations Commission (IRC) as part of proceedings that seek to recognise the work value of Special Constables.

The majority of the evidence in these proceedings has now been heard however the Commissioner of Police has yet to close their case as there are two witnesses, including the Respondent’s expert, that have not yet given evidence. Further hearing dates have been set down on 26 and 27 October 2023 (if required) to allow this to occur.  The Full Bench has also set down a further day for both parties to give closing submissions on 15 November 2023.

The Full Bench of the IRC decided on 10 August 2023 that they would be assisted by undertaking a site inspection at two sites where Special Constables work, specifically, Parliament House and the Sydney Police Centre. These site inspections will occur on the afternoon of 25 August 2023.

The PSA would again like to thank all those who provided witness statements and gave evidence in the proceedings. In particular we would like to commend your outstanding delegates who have worked tirelessly in pursuit of an outcome that fairly compensates you for the important work you perform. It is extremely disappointing that the NSWPF continue to fight against fair and reasonable wages for Special Constables.  The PSA will update the membership with any significant developments as they arise.
