Agreement reached with NSW Police Force concerning Crime Scene Services Branch allowance claim

In our last bulletin, which can be viewed HERE, the PSA advised members that it had reached an in-principle settlement with the Commissioner of Police (Commissioner) which was contingent upon the approval of the Commissioner and the Executive of the PSA, which was to be informed by a vote of membership. The details of the in-principle settlement are available HERE.

The survey for members closed on 16 January 2026 and the overwhelming majority of members endorsed acceptance of the terms of the in-principle settlement. On 22 January 2026, the PSA wrote to the Commissioner and confirmed that the PSA Executive had approved the terms of the in-principle settlement and agreement had been reached.

The NSW Police Force will consult with the PSA about communication to employees identifying the implementation of the agreement, including how the backpay arrangement will be implemented for eligible employees.

Payment of the evening meal allowance will be made to employees in the CSSB (other than those on an Allocator Shift) if the following criteria is met:

a. the employee travels to perform their duties until or beyond 6.30pm whilst on shift; and

b. the employee does not require overnight accommodation on that shift; and

c. the employee is either:

  1. required to travel a cumulative distance of 60km per shift and is 30km away from their normal headquarters at the time of taking their meal break; or
  2. performing duties outside of their normal headquarters (including travelling to crime scene or exhibit examination jobs or otherwise attending such jobs) for a cumulative period of 4.5 hours or more on that shift.

The PSA recommends keeping records of instances in which the circumstances at (c)(i) and (ii) arise on shift to keep track of any claims you are entitled to make.

The PSA will provide further updates as they become available.
