Community Corrections Departmental Committee: end of year wrap up
Update to members
Your Community Corrections Departmental Committee recently met with the Community Corrections Executive (CCJCC) and discussed the following matters:
SCCO progression process
Concerns were raised regarding the current Senior Community Corrections Officer (SCCO) progression process earlier in the year, and the review to the process is currently continuing with involvement from your delegates. Further updates to be shared as the review continues.
OIMS corselettes: system usability issues
The Committee continues to raise concerns about the usability of OIMS corselettes, noting they are not currently embedded in the onboarding process. The executive committed to reviewing training engagement and usability concerns. Members are encouraged to report issues with course content.
Recruitment, talent pools and EOIs
Numerous queries have been received in relation to the recruitment process, including restricting locations and the establishment of talent pools. We have also had queries in relation to development opportunities, to ensure that the process is fair and equitable. Discussions were held with A/Director of HR and Talent Acquisition on 16 of December to seek clarity with the processes.
Members are advised that any queries regarding unfilled positions or the recruitment process should be raised with local management in the first instance. If issues remain unresolved, PSA delegates are available to advocate on your behalf or contact the Member Support Centre.
Flexible work arrangements
With the DCJ/CSNSW Flexible Work Policy now in place, any local arrangements should be transparent including consultation with staff especially in relation to operational needs. Individuals can also request individual plans depending on their circumstances. Members are advised to work with their management and contact the PSA Member Support Centre if assistance is required.
Custodial duties undertaken by non-custodial staff (including Community Corrections) during industrial disputes and natural disasters
PSA motions were raised at the recent NC JCC (Non-Custodial Joint Consultative Committee) meeting outlining major concerns with tasks that CSNSW management believe non-custodial staff can undertake during industrial disputes and natural disasters. Consultation meetings will be undertaken with CSNSW and the sub-branches of the PSA to review these tasks. PSA will continue to send guidelines when these events occur, and members should not undertake any duties that they feel are unsafe to perform.
WMT Dashboard
We have received feedback that the WMT Dashboard has included additional functionality, especially around reporting and delegates would like to thank the Community Corrections Executive on the constructive consultation that was undertaken.
CCO Certificate IV support
Further requests were made with the Community Corrections executive for guidelines to assist with the management and supervision of trainees through the Certificate 4 program.
Dress Code Guide: Community Corrections
Due to the requirements for Community Corrections staff to visit locations such as courts and correctional centres a request has been made to the Community Corrections executive to develop a dress code guideline to assist staff.
RSDT update
The Remote Service Delivery Team (RSDT) continues to operate with four teams and EOIs will be utilised for the recruitment of Team Leaders and CCO’s to ensure these teams are maintained.
Field Officer: Test Case
We are still waiting on the decision to be handed down by the Industrial Relations Commission (in court session) for the test case for Field Officers to be employed as permanent ongoing roles instead of casual. We will notify our members as soon as the Industrial Court hands down its decision.
Community programs: internal facilitators
Currently the Community Corrections executive are reviewing how community programs are to be delivered as the budget has not been renewed for external facilitators programs and a commitment has been given that they will consult.
SOSAs and static: 99R
Concerns were raised with the completion of SOSA (Sex Offender Supervision Assessments) and impacts it has with CCO workloads. Community Corrections executive are to review the processes and Community Corrections delegates are also working with the psychology delegates.
Pay in advance
Be aware that the process for being paid in advance (e.g. taking leave) has changed and members should be aware of the process. If unsure, please discuss with your manager, HR, or reference (e.g. Memo Name which is on the CSNSW Intranet).
