Housing Services: South West Sydney Joint Consultative Committee meeting

The first quarterly Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) meeting for 2026 was held on 23 February 2026 for the South West Sydney district. PSA industrial staff attend these meetings with workplace delegates and district management.

JCCs are an important platform to address workplace concerns and members are encouraged to reach out to PSA delegates and staff about any workplace issues they would like raised at the meetings. They are an opportunity for members to speak out and ask any questions they may have about workplace rights. Please note only collective issues are discussed at JCCs. Individual matters are managed privately.

Key discussions on 23 February included:

Staff movements

Management said it has commenced staff preferences for stream and work location and that it would do its best to accommodate preferences. The PSA was informed the process has had a high success rate in the past.

The PSA would like to remind members of the Workplace Adjustment Passport, if relocation or movement to another stream is untenable because of disability, a medical condition or anything else that may affect your ability to do your job effectively. Please reach out to your workplace delegate or PSA organiser for more information.

Recruitment

Management said recruitment for the housing manager roles was recently completed and there is currently recruitment underway for Senior Client Service Officers.

The PSA often receives questions from members about recruitment, particularly in relation to opportunities to act up in higher roles. The department has a clear process around how to fill temporary vacancies of up to 26 weeks. Please let us know if you have any questions about it you’d like raised at the next JCC.

People Matter Employment Survey results

Management said one of its responses to the People Matter Employment Survey (PMES) was to allow staff to swap to a different role at grade as a way to counter burnout. The uptake was not high and management is unpacking why that was.

Team planning days are also underway, management said. This includes collaboration and discussion around PMES plans. ‘Action on PMES results’ is one of the bottom 3 results of the Housing Services’ PMES so we encourage members to engage with the plans and to speak up if there are any issues.

Work health and safety

The PSA has requested the district share deidentified Safety Suite data at future JCCs, in line with what other Housing Services’ districts provide.

Safety Suite is an important topic of discussion at JCCs and we encourage our members to report incidents. The PSA has heard from members across Housing Services that Safety Suite reports are sometimes closed without any follow up. Members are encouraged to let us know if this happens.

Management in the South West district says it is up to date with its Safety Suite training; if members are having any issues reporting incidents, again, please let us know.

The leadership team is also expected to receive guidance from the district’s injury management officer on how to better support staff returning back to work after they’ve been on workers’ comp.

Psychosocial Action Plan

As discussed in last year’s Housing Service’s JCC, districts are expected to develop Psychosocial Action Plans to better manage psychosocial risks in the workplace. Management confirmed that the South West district’s plan is in the final stages of approvement.

It’s important that members know about and understand the Psychosocial Action Plan as it will provide important information about psychosocial hazards such as role overload, workplace bullying, work-related violence and burnout. Under the new Work Health and Safety Regulation 2025 workplaces ‘must implement control measures to eliminate psychosocial hazards so far as is reasonably practicable’.

The next JCC meeting is scheduled for May. Members are encouraged to share any workplace concerns they have with their delegate or PSA organiser. If you have any questions about your rights in the workplace, please get in touch.
