At our 18 April meeting we discussed the outcome of the recent state election and what it means for the NSW public sector.
The Retired Associates have a particular interest in addressing insecure work. We’re seeing the impact of insecure work at first hand in our families and friendship groups. Julie-Ann Bond, Industrial Manager of the Communities, Health and Education team gave a presentation about the challenges faced by School Administrative and Support Staff (SASS).
Currently there is a large, temporary and overwhelmingly female SASS workforce in schools. The Department of Education’s contracts are tenuous which means that too many SASS members do not have their contracts renewed at the end of a term or school year. This can happen after many years of working at the same school.
It is a PSA priority that more SASS are converted to permanent employment, and the Retired Associates will do what we can to support increased permanent employment in schools and across the public sector.
The approved minutes of the 28 February meeting are attached HERE, and the draft minutes of the April meeting are attached HERE for the information of members.
The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 27 June 2023 at PSA House or by Zoom. This will be our Annual General Meeting and members are strongly encouraged to attend. A formal meeting notice will be distributed ahead of the AGM.
