RAT TESTING WHAT IS HAPPENING FOR COIs?

In December 2021 the PSA began advocating for TfNSW to prioritise COIs for onsite Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT).  Trials in other locations had been running long enough for TfNSW to start expanding their use of RATs; particularly with what looked like an imminent spike in cases and therefore risk to those working on the front line.

Moving into the New Year the PSA has continued to push TfNSW on the importance of RAT being available for COIs.  Not only is the industry you interact with high risk for COVID exposure as it is highly mobile and parts are included in the exemptions from self-isolation but your role is extremely important in keeping not only NSW functional but Australia.  Particularly when exemptions from self-isolation introduced as of 14 January 2021.

We have been advised that TfNSW will be subject to a NSW Government position on prioritization of certain areas for the implementing of RAT in the government workplaces. One of those areas is the support of essential services freight and food distribution.  We were advised a peak NSW Public Service meeting is occurring this week where the implementation of RATS and what it means in practice.

We anticipate further clarity from TfNSW this week on where the implementation of onsite RAT for COIs.

Whilst we continue to work with TfNSW on ensuring appropriate risk controls are implemented the PSA encourages members to put in incident reports where you have been put at risk because of COVID-19, whether this has been because of inadequate personal protection equipment (PPE), lack of appropaite risk controls or procedure when interacting with colleagues or general public, or being forced to attend work while a close contact.
