PSA staff together with your Student Support Officer (SSO) delegates met with Department of Education (DoE) management and Employee Relations representatives in May 2022.
After surveying our SSO members, we understand the importance of professional ethical practice and professional recognition, in line with their qualifications.
At the meeting, the two main issues the PSA raised on behalf of the broader SSO PSA membership are:
- The provision of professional supervision for SSOs by the DoE in line with your professional and ethical requirements.
- The provision of appropriate and consistent record-keeping processes to protect your ethical and work, health and safety interests.
The DoE took these issues on notice. The Department also informed the PSA that a review is being conducted of the Well-being Services Unit and this review is likely to consider the above issues. The PSA advised the DoE that we expect to be engaged in genuine and proper consultation going forwards about any changes that will affect SSOs arising from this review.
