Public Service Christmas closedown
There have been some enquires from members regarding the Christmas Closedown period.
The Christmas Closedown Period is from Monday 27 December 2021-Friday 7 January 2022.
See more information HERE.
During this time we have the following public holidays:
- Monday 27/12/21 (in lieu of Christmas Day)
- Tuesday 28/12/21 (in lieu of Boxing Day)
- Wednesday 29/12/21 (Public Service Holiday)
- Monday 3/1/22 (in lieu of New Years Day).
While taking leave during this time is encouraged, it is not compulsory. The PSA encourages members to regularly take leave for their own health and wellbeing. Christmas and the New Year is a great time to do so.
Can I work during the closedown period?
While the NSW Government encourages all ‘non-frontline’ areas to shut down over the Christmas and New Year period, you are not required to put up a justification or a ‘business case’ to explain why you do not want to take leave. Staff who intend to work should contact their relevant manager with their proposed dates. Unless you can be directed to take leave (see below), it’s your choice whether you work or not.
It is reasonable for an SSO to request working from home arrangements (or DoE office location) during school holiday periods. If working from an office, you should be provided with a safe and functional workspace, including access to a work phone and computer. You should also be advised who is working alongside you and who to contact in case of emergency during the break.
Can I be directed to take recreational leave due to the closedown?
You can only be directed to take recreation leave in accordance with Clause 77.2 of your Award.
Can I be directed to take extended (long service) leave or leave without pay?
You cannot be directed to take extended leave, long service leave, or leave without pay under any circumstances.
