Ban on Aboriginal consultation lifted – all other bans remain in place – May 2019 (PDF version)
The ban in relation to Aboriginal consultation can now be lifted following a consultative process between Aboriginal staff, delegates and management. This has resulted in a new AUX code for Aboriginal Consultation.
In relation to other bans in place, the PSA will not stand by and see the Helpline treated like a standard call centre with every break taken by staff timed, including toilet breaks.
The PSA continues to direct members to abide by the following bans at the Helpline:
- Do not enter auxiliary codes to account for toilet and personal care breaks – referred to as BRB – “be right back”
- Members in supervisory roles are directed not to respond to auxiliary code alerts relating to BRB triggers and not to directly approach or engage in discussions with relevant caseworkers relating to those triggers
- Do not allow calls to be observed until there has been meaningful consultation with the PSA and a policy framework and agreed standards to measure the quality of work in relation to call coaching.
We again urge FACS to enter into genuine and meaningful consultation so that caseworkers can get on and do their essential work without being micromanaged for every minute of the day.
