Are you a SAO science member and want to get more involved with the PSA?

Science nominees - July 2019 (PDF version)
  • Would you like to become more involved in your union?
  • Are you interested in working with the PSA and other SAO Science members in your school network to resolve issues and help to grow the union?

Consider becoming a PSA delegate

The PSA has recently called for nominations for the School Administrative Officer (Science) Vocational Advisory Group.

A Vocational Advisory Group is a committee of PSA members, in a particular vocation, that work together to involve more people in the union and help to resolve issues with the support of our Organisers and Industrial Officers.

Once you are a member of the SAO Science Vocational Advisory Group you become a delegate and are protected under legislation and your award.

Look for the email with the subject line Call for Nominations – Science Officer and nominate today. Nominees, nominators and seconders must be financial members of the Association as at 10 July 2019.

You get lots of support from the union office

You are not alone as a delegate. PSA organisers are there to support you to arrange meetings with members, recruit new members and provide the resources and material that will enable the building of union strength in the workplace.

Your industrial officers are there to provide you with expert advice and support if an issue arises and work with you to advance the rights and entitlements of your colleagues.

Usually there are four meetings each year and the PSA pays for you to be backfilled at your school as well as paying for your travel costs to attend.

You get access to free PSA training

Delegates and members can complete a range of trade union training provided by the PSA. These courses include ‘the role of the delegate’, ‘improving negotiation skills’ and ‘dealing with bullying in the workplace’. All PSA members have access to 12 days’ paid leave each two year period to attend PSA training courses.

Once elected, we will be providing all Vocational Group members with training in the role and rights of delegates and how your union will support you.

The full list of training courses available is on the PSA website here: psa.asn.au/training-you.

NOMINATE TODAY!

If you want to have a say in how your union is run and want to be part of a collective effort to improve your rights at work by building strength on the ground, we encourage you to nominate and get involved in your union, the PSA.
