Bulletin – Special Constables Respect and Recognition Campaign – Update

Special Constables - Respect and Recognition Campaign - September 2019 (pdf version)

Since our last Bulletin HERE on 28 August 2019, the PSA has been working to build support for the position of Special Constables.

Following up on significant public interest in the issue, PSA General Secretary, Stewart Little and representatives of Special Constables met with the Minister for Police, Rt. Hon. David Elliott, on 2 September 2019. Mr Elliott gave us a good hearing and undertook to ask the Police Commissioner for an explanation regarding the Role Description issue.

The PSA also sought input from the Public Service Commission regarding the Capability Framework and a meeting took place between NSW Police and the PSC on 12 September 2019.

A meeting between Police and the PSA regarding material provided by the PSC is scheduled for later this week. In order to give these processes time, the PSA agreed that the hearing listed on 10 September would be stood over until 10 October 2019.

The next two weeks are shaping up as a crucial time for our campaign. Make sure to discuss the campaign with your colleagues and delegates.
