Workplace Presence – PSA gains extension of consultation
As detailed in our previous bulletin, the PSA requested the following of Transport for NSW (TfNSW) last week:
- That consultation around the proposed changes be extended by a further week, to Wednesday 26 March 2025.
- That TfNSW commit to a further Town Hall style meeting in the consultation period, with the ability for TfNSW staff to have their questions answered by TfNSW leaders.
Yesterday TfNSW responded granting the PSA an extension of time to Wednesday 26 March 2025 to provide feedback from our members. Considering the extensive feedback provided to both the PSA and directly to TfNSW, this extension is welcome.
TfNSW have not however committed to our second request of a further Town Hall meeting with their staff to answer questions directly from them. This is disappointing considering the major change they are proposing.
Initial themes from feedback provided to PSA
- The “standard” hybrid agreement still requiring manager approval. If this agreement is a truly standard, it should be the automatic baseline agreement without the need to rely on an individual managers inclination to approve or reject. It should also remain in place regardless of a change in manager.
- The discretionary component to flexibility disproportionately affects women. TfNSW needs to explain how it will continue to support the workforce participation of women and gender equality if decisions around flexibility are left solely to individual managers.
- The affect any reduction in flexibility will have on regional staff, their communities and their local economies.
- Accommodation issues – Grave concerns that TfNSW do not have appropriate accommodation, facilities and equipment for staff to perform their jobs safely. TfNSW must commit to an audit/risk assessment process which focuses on this issue.
- Undertaking two major changes at the same time. TfNSW’s current plan of implementing two major changes, organisational redesign and changes to work practices, at the same time does nothing to mitigate the adverse effect of both proposals.
- Questions and concerns about the monitoring of monthly workplace presence requirements.
The above list is not exhaustive and all issues with the policy will be included in our formal feedback to TfNSW.
Extension to provide your feedback to the PSA
PSA members have an extra week to provide any feedback to the PSA about the proposed policy for inclusion in our submission. You can provide feedback to the PSA by completing our surveys (links below), or emailing us at
