Undervalued, Understaffed, Underpaid Campaign: Progress Update

Please review the latest developments in our Industrial Campaign following last week’s meeting between SOVBAG and Key Contacts from various centres.

Clarification on permanent scanning work ban.

We’ve identified a need to clarify the ban on working at locations with permanent scanning points:

  • If fewer than three Sheriff’s Officers are present at scanners during operating hours, screening must be suspended immediately, and your Regional Commander notified.
  • This includes responding to duress alarms, conducting patrols, or taking meal breaks.
  • During screening suspension, you may maintain presence in courtrooms, monitor CCTV, respond to duress alarms, and conduct patrols.
  • In the coming weeks, PSA representatives will conduct site visits to ensure proper implementation of work bans and engage directly with members.
  • Remember, maintaining adequate staffing levels is the Department’s responsibility, and they must plan for potential disruptions due to industrial action.
  • The PSA has relayed this information to management.

Campaign Impact and Progress

Our industrial action continues to make a significant impact:

  • Many satellite courts are operating at reduced hours or closing for extended periods.
  • It’s crucial that members maintain all industrial actions to keep pressure on the government.
