PSA wins back grace period for Senior Community Corrections Officer applications
Concerned members recently contacted the PSA about the removal of the “grace period” for Senior Community Corrections Officer (SCCO) applications.
There is a yearly intake for progression to SCCO that requires applicants to have worked as a CCO for a minimum of four years and to have been at the top increment for a minimum of 12 months. The cut-off date for this year was 2 May, initially with no grace period.
The PSA contacted the Department seeking that this grace period be reinstated, particularly given concerns that the PSA worked to address in last year’s SCCO application process that had caused distress for a number of members.
The Department responded, indicating that a two-week grace period would be included making the effective cut-off for the above requirements 16 May. The PSA again advocated that the grace period should be one month, as had occurred with previous intakes.
We are pleased to see in communication today that this grace period has now been updated to one month, meaning the effective cut-off for the above requirements is 2 June.
This opens up the application eligibility to a number of members, including those who completed their classes at the Academy in May 2017.
It pays to be union – literally! The PSA wishes all applicants luck in the SCCO intake!
Any members with further questions about the process can contact the PSA if they are unable to get adequate answers through the Department.
